A Concert Trails Guide
Opeth plays Bangalore (Bengaluru) on Sunday, October 4, at Bhartiya Mall of Bengaluru — a stop on their Last Will and Testament tour, the night after their Mumbai date. If you’re traveling in from another city for this Opeth Bangalore show, here’s what you need to know to put a trip together around it.

The venue is further out than you’d expect
Bighorn Arena sits in Thanisandra, in the city’s north — well outside the usual Bengaluru visitor corridor of Indiranagar, Koramangala, or MG Road. If you’re used to Googling “hotels near [venue]” and getting a clean answer, this one takes a bit more thought. Worth knowing before you book anything.
Where to stay — a few directions, not one answer
Hebbal (close to the venue). Staying near Hebbal cuts your show-day commute to a short ride, which matters if you don’t want traffic anxiety before doors. Trade-off: fewer places to eat and explore within easy walking distance if you’re building out the rest of your trip. That said, the city-center hubs — MG Road, Lavelle Road — are a reasonable 45 minutes away, and Indiranagar around 60.
Hilton Manyata, Courtyard, and Hyatt around Hebbal are all decent for a 1–2 night stay — clean and comfortable without breaking the bank. A cab from any of these to the venue takes roughly 20–30 minutes.
Central Bengaluru. Areas like Indiranagar or MG Road put you closer to hot spots, nightlife, and general city stuff — but budget 60–90 minutes to the venue on show day.
Venue-side. If you’re flying in and out quickly with limited time, staying right by Bhartiya Mall simplifies logistics considerably. The Leela Bhartiya City is the option if you want to enjoy the show weekend in some luxury. For most of us, though, the better value pick is a serviced apartment in Nikoo Homes 1 or Nikoo Homes 2 — both located within the Bhartiya City campus itself, and just a 5-minute walk to the arena. A ride from the airport runs about 30–35 minutes, and a 1BHK typically runs roughly ₹4,000–6,000 a night, a 2BHK ₹7,000–10,000 — pick based on your group size. Since the mall sits right on the same campus, there’s also good scope for food and drinks before the show without going anywhere.
Simple walk-in (no overnight stay). Flying in or taking the train just for the show, then heading back the same night? Airport to venue runs about 30–35 minutes by cab; from the train stations, closer to 60–75 minutes. It’s a high-energy, high-commitment option, but a doable one — I’ve seen fans pull it off before, and I’ve done it myself for Mumbai shows a couple of times. Works fine if your schedule’s tight and you genuinely can’t spare 1–2 days away from work or other commitments.
There’s no wrong choice here — it depends on whether this is purely a “fly in for the show” trip or a longer visit where you want to actually explore the city.
Worth noting: this guide skips areas like Koramangala, HSR Layout, Jayanagar, and Whitefield — all solid parts of the city, just far enough from Thanisandra that they’d add a meaningfully longer commute on show day, so they didn’t make the cut here.
Getting there and around
From the airport, expect somewhere in the range of 60–75 minutes to reach central Bengaluru. Thanisandra itself is closer — you can usually get there within 45 minutes, depending on traffic. And Bengaluru traffic is genuinely predictable — always a mad rush, roads carrying every kind of vehicle imaginable, everyone with their own invented rules for getting through it. Building in buffer time is worth it, especially on show day.
Ride-hailing apps (Uber) are the most straightforward option for most visitors. The metro network is expanding, but slowly, and doesn’t yet reach this part of the city — at the current rate, it might be another hundred years. The airport itself has been running for two decades without a metro line to show for it.
For show day specifically: consider arriving in the city a day early rather than flying in same-day, given the added variable of the venue’s location. A same-day arrival can work, but leaves little room for delays — and arriving early gives you a taste of a Bangalore Saturday night too.
One small tip: a couple of basic Kannada words go a long way with autos and cabs — a simple “Namaskara” (hello) and “Chennagidira?” (how’s it going) can smooth things along, especially if a driver leans toward speaking Kannada. Doesn’t take more than that.
Beyond the show
Bengaluru’s food scene is genuinely strong — from long-running South Indian institutions to a large craft beer and café culture, there’s a lot to fill a day around the show. The city also has a real live-music history beyond this one date, worth checking what else is on if you’re building a longer trip.
The arena sits right next to Bhartiya Mall, so here are a few recommendations if you arrive in the afternoon with time to spare:
Geist — excellent craft beer and a food menu worth trying in its own right. Their homemade ice cream is worth saving room for.
Toscano or Si Nonna’s — good options for an evening coffee and cake if you want something other than the usual café chains.
Punjab Grill — a solid pick for North Indian food. There’s also a food court on-site covering pretty much every other craving.
Waffle World — a bit of a hidden gem; the ice cream here is closer to gelato quality than you’d expect.
Rough budget shape
Costs vary a lot depending on how you travel and where you stay, but a same-city weekend trip built around one show typically breaks down into: accommodation, local transport, food, and the ticket itself — with accommodation being the biggest swing factor depending on which of the options above you pick.
What this guide doesn’t cover
This is general planning information, not a booked itinerary — flights, hotel bookings, and tickets are all things you’d handle directly. Details like prices and availability change, so confirm anything time-sensitive closer to your travel dates.
Sample two-day itinerary
A rough shape for a trip built entirely around the show — adjust timing based on where you land and where you’re staying. Options are split by area since your choices shift depending on whether you’re based centrally (Indiranagar), near Hebbal, or right on the venue campus.
Day 1 — Saturday, Oct 3 (Arrival)
Day 2 — Sunday, Oct 4 (Show Day)
A note on the venue names above: these reflect local knowledge and general recommendations for these areas — worth a quick check on current hours and that they’re still open before building your own plan around them, as details can shift.
